2024 Snohomish County Sports Hall of Fame class announced

Five athletes, one coach, one contributor and one team are being inducted.

EVERETT — The Snohomish County Sports Hall of Fame announced its 2024 induction class Monday, with this year’s class consisting of five athletes, one coach, one contributor and one team. The inductees will be honored at the Snohomish County Sports Hall of Fame Induction Banquet on Sept. 25 at the Edward D. Hansen Conference Center at Angel of the Winds Arena.

Here is this year’s class:

Athletes

  • Rachel Kloke Stohl. The Stanwood High School graduate starred in basketball, track and field, cross country and golf from 2003-07, then went on to play basketball collegiately at the University of Idaho and professionally in Australia.
  • Ben Somoza. The Edmonds-Woodway High School graduate was one of the area’s top boys soccer players, going on to earn All-Pac-10 honors at the University of Washington and play professionally for five years with the Portland Timbers and Seattle Sounders.
  • Geoff Reece. The Cascade High School graduate went from walking on to the Washington State University football team to becoming an All-American offensive lineman for the Cougars and being selected 61st overall in the 1975 NFL draft by the Los Angeles Rams.
  • Whitney Hooks. The Cascade High School graduate is one of the most decorated throwers in state track and field history, winning four straight state championships in the girls shot put from 2003-06 and adding two discus state titles before standing out at Cal State Northridge.
  • Peter Lee. The Everett High School graduate won his first swimming state title in 1939, setting a state record in the 50-yard freestyle that stood for a decade. He went on to an All-American career at the University of Washington before returning to Everett High to become a longtime coach.

Coach

  • Dan Parker. The longtime cross country coach at Snohomish and Glacier Peak high schools, he guided his teams (between girls and boys) to 28 Wesco, 23 Northwest District and nine state championships.

Contributor

  • Frank Foster. The Cascade High School graduate served as the chair of the Snohomish County Sports Hall of Fame from its inception in 2008 until last November. He’s also held several other roles in the local sports community, such as coach and administrator.

Team

  • 2006 Jackson baseball team. The Timberwolves, led by future major leaguer Travis Snider, went 27-0 en route to claiming the Class 4A state championship. Jackson outscored its opponents 232-34, including 61-6 in seven postseason games.
