EUGENE, Ore. — Three AquaSox pitchers combined to throw a no-hitter in a 1-0 victory over the Eugene Emeralds on Friday at PK Park.
Ryan Hawks performed the bulk of the magic against Eugene, tossing 82 pitches over 7 innings, walking three while striking out seven batters as the right-hander improved to 6-3 this season.
Charlie Bellenson followed with a perfect eighth. Stefan Raeth struck out the side in the bottom of the ninth for his fourth save of the season as he preserved the narrow Northwest League victory.
Lazaro Montes (1-for-3, BB, K, RBI) doubled to drive in Michael Arroyo (2-for-4, R, K) for the game’s lone run. The AquaSox managed six hits in the game, but Everett pitchers picked a good day to fire a no-hitter. Everett batters struck out 16 times and did not walk against Eugene.
On Saturday, Everett ensured its third series win of the season with a 6-4 win before falling 8-0 on Sunday to finish the week with four wins against two losses.
In Saturday’s game, the AquaSox pelted the Emeralds with 12 hits, including a 4-for-5 evening by Everett leadoff hitter Charlie Pagliarini. The 24-year-old also hit his sixth home run of the year to allow some cushion for Gabriel Sosa, who allowed two hits and a run in the ninth before picking up his fifth save. Tai Peete hit his eighth and ninth homers of the season on Saturday, and Luis Suisbel also hit one out.
Starter Nico Tellache pitched 4 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on a pair of solo home runs. Reliever Ben Hernandez improved to 4-0 after throwing 1 1/3 scoreless frames.
In Sunday’s game, the Emeralds pounced on AquaSox starter Evan Truitt (L, 2-3) for four runs in the second inning. The 22-year-old right-hander managed four innings, allowing eight hits (2 HR) while walking two and striking out two. Frogs shortstop Colt Emerson (2-for-4) picked up half of Everett’s four hits in the game.
The AquaSox (28-28) will attempt to win two series at home against Tri-City (26-30) this week.
Everett and the Dust Devils were tied 5-5 on May 11 before the game was suspended due to rain. The two teams will complete that game starting at 5 p.m. Tuesday, which will lead to either a series win or tie for the Frogs, who are 3-2-4 in series this season. After that game is completed, the two teams will begin a new six-game set.
