In response to a recent Herald article (“WA Supreme Court says state isn’t responsible for 100% of school construction costs,” The Herald, Sept. 8), the necessity of electing Cindy Gobel to the county auditor’s office is evident. With the state backing away from fully funding school construction, leaders like Gobel, who prioritize community-based solutions, are vital.
Gobel proposes that levy or bond pro and con committees for the voters guide statements be made up of residents from the affected districts. This ensures not just educational quality for our children but also the protection of local jobs, two factors intrinsically linked. The current auditor is appointing external special interest groups that are not representative of our community and are unaffected by our local school funding decisions. These groups are not tied to our schools, kids, or community and are made up of individuals not contributing to our tax base.
The recent Supreme Court ruling underlines the system’s existing inequities, especially for smaller districts. Gobel’s Community-focused approach is the solution we need. Her role in the auditors office would be key in navigating these complex challenges effectively.
