So I read the story about the Hope ‘N Wellness service center being in violation of a city code (“Everett homeless service faces uncertain future,” The Herald, Jan.18).
What a joke! It appears to be the only place in all of Everett where someone is actually doing something to address our biggest social issue. The woman running the open-door service has been told to shut down because the city council wants to encourage “economic development” in that area.
Have you seen that store front? Have you stopped in? It is not a fancy spot. It used to be a tavern years ago the owner couldn’t keep up with maintenance. He is letting it be used now for free to do his part to help all of Everett. Imagine that! What if ten churches around here did the same thing when their building is empty. Ask the city council to allow this important service to remain in its location.
