I was very fortunate to start my medical career in Everett in 1977. We had an outstanding medical staff, two excellent hospitals, and a wonderful and diverse community to serve. Two of the original eight “Sisters of Providence” were still alive and often attended medical staff, and Community Board meetings. I was honored to have known them. This news about Providence Health Systems shortchanging its employees is very discouraging!
Just another sign that the mergers of various health systems have lost their vision about the purpose and benefits of health care in our nation. The rush to develop larger “systems” as well as the insanely elevated salaries of their leadership, really is unsustainable. It is well past time for a national, single-payer, health system in our nation. Compassionate, and patient focused, health care must happen. And it’s way overdue!
