The Boeing Co. will hand over the first 787 to All Nippon Airways on Sept. 26, the airline said on Friday.
The two will finish up the contracts for delivery Sept. 25, with the delivery ceremony taking place Sept. 26.
“The airplane is ready. ANA is ready. And, Boeing is ready,” said Jim Albaugh, president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes. “This airplane begins a new chapter in aviation history.”
ANA will fly the 787 back to Japan on Sept. 27. The airplane will arrive in Tokyo on Sept. 28. ANA already has set up a special charter flight in October.
“This aircraft will enable us to offer new standards of service and comfort to our passengers and will play an important role in our international expansion strategy as we seek to become Asia’s number one airline,” said Shinichiro Ito, president of ANA.
Boeing plans to celebrate Federal Aviation Administration certification of the 787 this morning.
