PARIS — Airbus parent company EADS NV has named Tom Enders its new chief executive. He will take over later this year from Louis Gallois.
The national balance of power at the French-German conglomerate has always been important. For a number of years, it was run by co-CEOs, one from each country. In 2007, it switched to a single CEO, and it was decided that Frenchman Gallois would be succeeded by a German.
The company said Thursday that Enders will take over after the company’s May 31 annual meeting. The 53-year-old is currently the CEO of aircraft maker Airbus, the flagship of EADS.
Meanwhile, Arnaud Lagardere, who runs the media company that bears his name, will take over as chairman on the board. At the same time, Jean-Claude Trichet, former President of the European Central Bank, will join EADS board of directors.
Fabrice Bregier will become CEO of Airbus.
