Korea’s Asiana Airlines has agreed to buy six A380 super jumbo jets from Airbus, the jet maker said Thursday.
The order is a boost to the A380 program, which has been plagued with engine problems following an incident with a Qantas jet last November.
“The order is a further endorsement
of the A380 as the most efficient tool to meet demand on the world’s most heavily traveled routes, especially out of the fast-growing Asia-Pacific region,” said Airbus CEO John Leahy.
Deliveries of the A380s are scheduled to begin in 2014. The super jumbo jets will be used on routes from South Korea to Europe and the United States.
“With the A380 Asiana will be able to take its award-winning service to a new level, offering the very highest standards of comfort in the sky,” said Yoon Young-Doo, President and CEO, Asiana Airlines.
