AT&T will beef up its call center service staff

EVERETT — AT&T Broadband is adding 150 customer service representatives to the company’s call center in south Everett.

The customer sales and service center, along with one in Fife, provides support for customers of AT&T Broadband’s cable television, high-speed Internet and video services.

"We’ll start adding immediately, and we expect to be hiring over the next several months," company spokesman Steve Kipp said.

About 260 people work full-time at the Everett facility now, he added.

The hiring is prompted by a change in AT&T Broadband’s customer service strategy for Washington, Kipp said. While service operators in national call centers will still be used, the company is trying to have customers helped by the centers closest to where they live.

"What we’re working on having local customers have their questions answered in a local call center," he said. "These will be very highly trained customer service representatives who will be able to answer questions about any of our services."

The Everett and Fife facilities serve AT&T Broadband’s customers, exceeding 1 million, in a territory that includes much of Western Washington and the Spokane area.

The Everett call center has operated since at least the early 1990s, before AT&T took it over. In recent years, the company has updated the facility to make it state-of-the-art, Kipp said.

AT&T Broadband, a division of AT&T, is the nation’s largest cable and broadband company.
