Mari Taylor of the Lake Stevens School Board has been elected president of the Washington State School Directors’ Association board. The association provides professional development, advocacy, policy, informational and other services to the state’s school boards.
Crane Aerospace &Electronics has appointed Arnee Gomez vice president of human resources for the Aerospace Group. Gomez will be based in Lynnwood.

Bud Alkire, executive director of the Everett Housing Authority, was presented with a lifetime achievement award by the Washington State Housing Finance Commission. He was recognized for efforts to provide housing needs in Everett and Snohomish County and for demonstrating a commitment to the people he serves.
Everett Community College communications instructor Lori Wisdom-Whitley has won an exemplary status award from the Washington Community Colleges Humanities Association. Wisdom-Whitley, of Tulalip, has coordinated EvCC’s Tuesday Travelogue series since 2008 and is a member of the Humanities Center Faculty Steering Committee. She has worked at EvCC since 1994.
Central Washington University’s leadership in online higher education was acknowledged at this year’s International Federation for Information Processing World Computer Congress in Amsterdam. At the Congress, Terry Linkletter, CWU-Lynnwood Information Technology and Administrative Management professor, delivered a presentation and participated in a roundtable discussion.
Crew members of the Washington State Department of Transportation’s Ferries Division won the President’s Transportation Award for water transportation and were recognized for saving fuel on the Edmonds/Kingston route. This is the second time that Washington State Ferries has won an award sponsored by the American Association of State and Highway Transportation Officials.
Members of the Zonta Club of Everett recently attended the District 8 Governor’s Seminar and Leadership Summit in Anchorage, Alaska. The club received awards for work in improving women’s lives globally and locally during the past year.

Schack Art Center has received a $30,000 grant from the Boeing Co. for several 2013 exhibits through Boeing’s Global Corporate Citizenship organization.
Opus Bank and Opus Community Foundation announced 16 grants to charitable organizations. Cocoon House in Everett received a grant to support emergency shelter and services for at-risk and homeless teens.

HomeStreet Bank has opened a branch in Lynnwood and has on display a 14-foot model of a bank safe which the public can visit and try to open through Nov. 10. One person will win $300 each day, either by dialing the correct combination or through a drawing. The company is donating $5,000 to YWCA Pathways for Women and Clothes For Kids.
Dentist Jason Bourne will hold a Halloween candy buy=back program for a ninth year. Starting Thursday, he will pay $4 per pound for surrendered Halloween treats. Two dollars will go to the child, and the other two dollars will be donated to the local Boys and Girls Clubs and the YMCA. Last year, Bourne Orthodontics collected more than 1,400 pounds of Halloween candy.
The Snohomish County Young Professionals Network annual Cocoon House fundraiser is from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at SoJen Cellars, 2818 Hewitt Ave. in Everett. Tickets are $20 at the door and include appetizers and two glasses of wine. There will be drawings and a silent auction. More information is at www.scypn.com.

The company’s services include general manufacturing, mockup and prototype fabrication, parts approval authority and testing.
Segway of Edmonds has a new home at 206 Fifth Ave. S. Partnering with the Edmonds Chamber of Commerce, Segway of Edmonds hosted a ribbon cutting on Oct. 26. The retail store includes Segway sales, service, rentals and guided tours.
