Tom Hoban, CEO of Everett-based Coast Group of Companies, which includes commercial brokerage firm Coast/Sperry Van Ness, was awarded the Humanitarian of the Year Award at the national Sperry Van Ness conference in San Diego this month. Hoban, with brother Shawn Hoban, founded the first of the companies 25 years ago.
KeyBank has promoted Aspasia Sotiriou to area retail leader. In this role, she will manage operations at 11 branches in the Snohomish County area. Since joining KeyBank in 1997, Sotiriou has been a teller, assistant branch manager, branch manager and district operations manager. Most recently, she was project manager for KeyBank’s branch expansion projects.

The Everett-based syndicated radio show, “Talk About Cars,” has been selected as the Best Automotive Radio Program for 2012 by the Automotive Journalism Society of North America. At the recent 2012 Beta Alpha Psi Regional Conference, University of Washington Bothell won one competition, “Dealing with Change,” and came in second in another, “Thinking Outside of the Box.” The winning team will compete in the national Beta Alpha Psi competition in Baltimore in August. Beta Alpha Psi is an honorary organization for financial-information students and professionals. This year’s event was hosted by UW Bothell.

Snohomish Station Animal Hospital, a new veterinary facility, will host a community pet adoption event and block party May 12. BECU will celebrate the grand opening of a new neighborhood financial center at 16310 Bothell-Everett Highway in Mill Creek at noon on Thursday. AEG Facilities has named Tulalip Resort Casino as the exclusive casino and resort partner of KeyArena at Seattle Center. Northwest Multiple Listing Service has unveiled mobile applications to enable brokers to quickly navigate the MLS system using iPads, iPhones or Android devices, with a BlackBerry app to be added soon. The new tool allows MLS broker members to search for listings around them by using a device’s GPS. Only members of Northwest MLS will have access to the tool, which is offered to members as an optional subscription.
The City of Bothell was a recipient of $500,000 to fund a project for the Bothell Med Tech Manufacturing Innovation Partnership Zone. This is its second $500,000 grant for this purpose. The state construction budget funds local workforce development and infrastructure projects, creating an estimated 18,000 jobs statewide.

According to the Smith Travel Research Report for March, Snohomish County ended the month up 3 percent in hotel-motel occupancy over the previous year and finished the month at 64.1 percent.
The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and U.S. Small Business Administration have new resources to support small businesses.
