Machinists picked up 458 of the 700 layoff notices handed out locally by the Boeing Co.
The layoffs are part of a previously announced plan by Boeing to reduce its workforce by 6 percent or by 10,000 positions this year.
Boeing had said in January that the majority of the job cuts would be focused on “overhead functions.”
Last month, Machinists received 466 of the 750 notices that went out to workers in the Puget Sound region.
SPEEA, Boeing’s engineer’s union, will meet with the company this afternoon and should have an estimate of the total of engineers and technical workers who will get 60-day notices today.
