New artisan bakery opens in Everett
Choux Choux Bakery, Everett’s newest artisan bakery specializing in rustic and sweet breads and assorted French pastries, has opened at 2900 Grand Ave.. The bakery, whose name is pronounced shoe-shoe, is owned by Rachel Schreffler who is also the lead baker. The business features espresso and coffee from Vista Clara Coffee of Snohomish to complement its baked goods.

EvergreenHealth Monroe Foundation gala raises $141,000
The EvergreenHealth Monroe Foundation’s third annual Blue Jeans and Boots Gala on Sept. 10 raised $141,000 to benefit the Breast Center at EvergreenHealth Monroe. The gala initiated a yearlong campaign to raise a total of $200,000 to fund the purchase of a 3-D tomosynthesis mammography unit for the breast center. The technology will help providers detect breast cancer in its earliest stages.
State minimum wage workers to receive 6 cent raise
On Sept. 28, the Washington State Department of Labor & Industries announced the state’s minimum wage will increase 6 cents in 2017. The wage will rise to $9.53 an hour on Jan. 1. The change reflects a 0.7 percent increase in the federal Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers over the last 12 months ending Aug. 31.
