‘Got Interviews’ workshop planned in Arlington

WorkSource Snohomish County will present free workshops for job seekers this fall in collaboration with the Arlington Library and the City of Arlington. ‘Got Interviews’ is the title of the workshop for Oct. 21. It will explain tactics to get more frequent interviews. The workshop will be held at City Council Chambers, 100 E. Third St., Arlington. Registration links are at www.sno-isle.org/.

Financial adviser completes retirement planning program

Sterling Gurney of the financial services firm Edward Jones in Snohomish has achieved the professional designation of Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor. Gurney successfully completed the program from the Denver-based College for Financial Planning. Those who complete the program, pass a final exam and sign a code of ethics and a disclosure form to earn the designation.

Nominate small business person of the year

The U.S. Small Business Administration is ready to accept nominations for its 2015 National Small Business Week Awards, including the annual Small Business Person of the Year award. The web portal http://awards.sba.gov provides all the guidelines and has made it easier to submit and track submissions of nominees for National Small Business Week. Nominations are due by Jan. 5, 2015.

In honor of National Feral Cat Day, Community Cat Coalition of Mukilteo will sponsor no-cost spay/neuter days for feral and owned cats in Western Washington. Reservations must be made in advance either on-line or by phone. In addition all cats will receive flea treatment and FVRCP vaccinations at no cost. Farmers, ranchers affected by drought get help

According to the IRS, farmers and ranchers in Washington who previously were forced to sell livestock due to drought have an extended period of time in which to replace the livestock and defer tax on any gains from the forced sales. Livestock generally must be replaced within a four-year period. Details are in Publication 225 available on the IRS website.
