Nigeria’s Arik Air has placed a $1.8 billion order for Boeing Co. jets, including four 787s. In April, Arik Air took delivery of two 737-700s and announced an order for four 777s and three 787s. Wednesday’s follow-up order includes requests for 10 737-800s, four 787-9s and one 777-300
Extended Range plane. Arik Air’s order for 787’s brings the Dreamliner’s total tally to 710.
Crystal store opens at Alderwood mall
A crystal manufacturer and giftware store will open its doors Friday at Alderwood mall in Lynnwood. Swarovski, a manufacturer of cut crystal since 1895, is located near near the Terraces wing of the mall. The company’s store will sell crystal jewelry, watches, accessories and collectibles.
Bill includes money for local firms
Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., has included $50 million for state companies in a defense funding bill. Lynnwood’s Crane Aerospace would receive $4 million for a real-time weight and balance measurement system for cargo aircraft while Edmond’s Sound and Sea Technologies would get $2 million for a defense system for Navy ships. Murray serves on the Senate Defense Appropriations subcommittee. The bill will move to the Senate for its approval.
CombiMatrix stock switches symbols
CombiMatrix Corp. of Mukilteo has changed its stock trading symbol back to CBMX as of today. After the maker of molecular diagnostic and research tools split from its former parent company last month, CombiMatrix temporarily traded under the symbol CBMXD. At Wednesday’s close, CombiMatrix’s shares were trading at $4.63.
Oil touches record of $80 a barrel
Oil futures prices briefly rose to a record $80 a barrel Wednesday afternoon after the government reported a surprisingly large drop in crude oil inventories and declines in gasoline supplies and refinery activity. Light, sweet crude for October delivery closed at $79.71 on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Despite the rise, oil is still well below inflation-adjusted highs hit in early 1980.

suit against lender
A federal lawsuit filed against Countrywide Financial Corp. on behalf of its employees claims the mortgage lender failed to warn its employees about the depth of its financial troubles, resulting in heavy stock losses in their 401(k) retirement accounts. Calabasas, Calif.-based Countrywide, one of the nation’s largest mortgage lenders, has struggled as the housing slump led to a sharp rise in mortgage defaults and foreclosures.
Favre, Butkus to promote Nautilus
Nautilus Inc. is tapping Brett Favre and Dick Butkus to help promote its Bowflex products. It remains to be seen if they will help the Vancouver, Wash.-based fitness equipment maker’s bottom line. Favre is quarterback for the Green Bay Packers. Butkus is an NFL Hall of Fame linebacker. Nautilus has been struggling recently. In August, Gregg Hamman, president and chief executive officer, stepped down after a disappointing financial performance.
