Duffy Burns and Shane Cooper, firefighters from Snohomish County Fire District 1, will be involved in paramedic training for 10 months at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. Burns and Cooper have been full-time firefighters with Fire District 1 for 15 years. All Fire District 1 firefighters are certified as either paramedics or emergency medical technicians. Most of the district’s emergency calls are for medical aid. Firefighter/paramedics are dispatched to the most serious, life-threatening emergencies.
Tim Peppers of Top Food &Drug in Snohomish has been named the chain’s store manager of the year, from among 17 stores in Washington. The staff of the Snohomish store received top honors; the store was named store of the year. Customer relations, community involvement and product presentation were listed as top reasons for the award, a company spokesman said.
Donna Davis, Milton Cheung, Peggy Halbakken and Ramona Blay, also earned awards from Top Foods. At the Edmonds store, Donna Davis was named variety manager of the year, Cheung was named pharmacy manager of the year and Halbakken was named food service manager of the year. From the Everett store, Blay was named garden manager of the year.

D. Michael Strong, executive vice president of operations and chief operating officer at Puget Sound Blood Center, has been named president of the AABB, formerly known as the American Association of Blood Banks. Strong joined the Puget Sound Blood Center in 1988 and is recognized as one of the world’s leading experts in cell cryopreservation and tissue banking.
Daniel Kore, a native of Ethiopia, a cross-country runner at Everett High School and a sophomore at Everett Community College, has been granted a franchise in the College Pro Painters company.
