Tom Campion, founder of Zumiez Inc. and the Zumiez Foundation were recently awarded the Operation School Bell Award by Assistance League of Everett. The Operation School Bell program makes sure that children from 14 school districts in Snohomish County have school clothes. During the current school year, more than 2,800 students from low-income families were served. The Zumiez Foundation received the award for its dedicated and continued support to Assistance League of Everett. The Everett-based clothing company has given hundreds of jackets, sweatshirts, hats, gloves and fleece lap blankets to the Operation School Bell program. Employees make up the board of directors of the Zumiez Foundation.
Lakewood Sports Booster Club’s annual “Cougar Classic Golf Tournament” is set for June 16 at Camaloch Golf Course on Camano Island. The Greater Everett Community Foundation awarded $24,405 to local nonprofit organizations in April. Of this amount $14,305 was from the Anne and Mary Arts and Environmental Education Fund. That fund gave grants to the Snohomish Artist Guild, Stilly-Snohomish Fisheries Enhancement Task Force, Cascade High School ceramics and chemistry, Arts Council of Snohomish County, Imagine Children’s Museum, Wooden O Theatre Productions, Project Sea Wolf Coastal Protection and Seniors Making Art. Additional grants were given from other foundation funds to the Port Townsend Aero Museum, East County Senior Center, Providence General Foundation, ChezChevaux and the Evergreen Arboretum and Gardens. The Greater Everett Community Foundation manages more than 60 charitable funds and works with donors to strengthen communities in Snohomish County by building endowments, connecting donors to charitable causes and making grants.

Regence Blueshield employees from Snohomish County recently participated in a fundraising event for the American Cancer Society. They cut their hair for Locks of Love and then charged admission to the haircutting session. The group then donated the admission funds to the cancer group.
