The City of Mountlake Terrace has hired Dave Baron to become the city’s first economic development director. Baron most recently served as economic development director for the City of Auburn. His background includes serving as vice consul for trade and investment at the British

Consulate in Seattle.

Ben Cleveland has been named manager of the Washington State Department of Natural Resources Northwest Region. Cleveland will oversee operations in the region that includes Whatcom, Skagit, Snohomish, Island and San Juan counties. He will manage 130 staff member

s in a region that includes more than 386,000 acres of state trust lands.

VibrantUSA, an independent insurance agency specializing in Medicare, has opened a sales office at 1710 100th Place SE, #109, Everett. The office will have two licensed insurance agents: manager Don Schafer, who worked in the Bellingham office, and Vicki Moore, who has worked two years with VibrantUSA.

Romio’s Pizza, at 630 Edmonds Way in Edmonds, will become Kebella’s Pizza and Pasta on May 1. Owner Peter Stratiev is breaking away from the Romio’s Pizza Franchise Group, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in November. Info: 425-774-0284.

The new First Step Medical Training Institute in Everett offers courses for people interested in becoming a certified nursing assistant. The institute also offers re-certification courses or continuing education classes for health care providers. The Marysville Tulalip Chamber of Commerce is seeking nominations for its 2011 business and community leadership awards. Washington State Department of Labor and Industries has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada. The award is for Labor and Industries’ annual financial report on the financial state of workers’ compensation funds.

Washington Banking Co., the holding company of Whidbey Island Bank, has been selected by Keefe, Bruyette and Woods as one of 40 institutes to qualify for inclusion in the 2010 Bank Honor Roll. Keefe, Bruyette and Woods, an international banking and financial services company, screened 400 companies for the honor.
