Chevrolet dealer to reopen in Arlington

Dwayne Lane’s Arlington Chevrolet will reopen soon on Highway 9, starting with a staff of 15 employees.

“We’re really excited,” said Tom Lane, president of Dwayne Lane’s Family of Auto Centers.

He said the new location, the site of the former OSO Lumber, will be about five times the size of the previous dealership in downtown Arlington and will allow the facility to become more of a regional maintenance center.

The location at 21015 Highway 9 was once another car dealership and has about 25,000 square feet of office and showroom space and five acres of asphalt. “It was originally built as a Ford store before the lumber business moved in, so it’s all set up,” Lane said.

He said he expects to start with about 15 employees and is “hoping to grow to 30.”

General Motors shut down the Arlington Chevrolet dealership in September 2009. “We got into negotiations with GM and were invited back,” Lane said. “It took us a while.”

He noted that the dealership is a bit of a different business model than the typical “auto row” car dealer.

He said the location has room for an extensive inventory of new and used vehicles and he wants to provide the largest service facility in the area for a variety of vehicles.

It will be staffed with certified technicians and include a quick lube service, he added.

“I’m excited about rejoining Arlington, increasing local employment and selling tons of new Chevrolet vehicles,” Lane said.

Arlington Mayor Margaret Larson said the city is thrilled with the decision to reopen the dealership.

“It was difficult for the city to lose the revenue and employment base that Dwayne Lane’s Arlington Chevrolet generated over the years,” she said in a statement. “We welcome them back with open arms.”
