Teal Group analyst Richard Aboulafia, back from his recent appearance at the Future of Flight in Mukilteo, America, shares his thoughts on the Russian Regional Jet http://www.richardaboulafia.com/shownote.asp?id=209 in his monthly letter to his clients. We’ve got a stake in the RRJ here in the New Jet City — Flight Structures Inc. of Marysville is in charge of the interiors on the Sukhoi jet.
Aboulafia says they shouldn’t count their galleys before they’re launched.
Key Quote: “The RRJ might have made more sense a few years ago when the regional jet market was booming. After all, a rising tide lifts all boats. Even slow, stupid, leaky ones.”
His newsletter follows his recent article in Aerospace America http://www.aiaa.org/aerospace/images/articleimages/pdf/AA_Feb06_II.pdf that discussed the rapid demise of the regional jet.
Key Quote: “Large U.S. carriers could only hope to maintain their hub-and-spoke operations, the basis for their existence, if they cut their high costs while maintaining arrival and departure frequency. … This strategy largely depended on greater utilization of RJs.”
