The Port of Everett is reorganizing the duties of some of its executives to provide closer oversight for a number of major projects under way this year.
Ed Paskovskis, deputy director, will now be responsible for the port’s security plan, redevelopment of the Mukilteo tank farm, labor relations, state legislative matters and transportation issues.
Carl Wollebek, marine marketing director, will also take on added responsibility as director of the marine terminals. He will oversee the day-to-day operation of the port’s marine facilities, including the rail barge dock that is planned to handle Boeing Co. parts shipped from overseas.
The changes were announced by John Mohr, executive director of the port, who said they should help the port deal with a number of major projects under way, including redevelopment of the north marina, installation of two major container cranes, construction of the new barge pier and development of the old fuel depot on the Mukilteo waterfront.
"We only planned one big project this year and that was the North Marina," Mohr said. Each one (of the other projects) is a pretty big undertaking for a small staff, but we have four of them now.
We needed a reorganization to attack this elephant. We’ll still eat it one bite at a time, but we need to be more focused."
Mohr, noting Paskovskis handling of the recent construction of a $10 million overpass onto port property from Everett Avenue, said he’s proved his ability to handle complex projects and see them through.
He said it also made sense to have Wollebek pick up supervision of the port’s facilities because many of the vessels using the local piers were part of special projects arranged by Wollebek.
Mohr said the reorganization should help him spend more time in the community explaining all the things going on at the port.
