EVERETT — Fortive Corp. announced Thursday that it had signed an agreement to acquire Industrial Scientific Corp., a Pittsburgh company that makes gas detection equipment.
The transaction is expected to close before the end of 2017. Industrial Scientific employs 700 people in 21 countries.
“Only a few people in the world get excited about gas detectors. Most of them work at Industrial Scientific,” the company’s website says.
Fortive CEO James Lico said Industrial Scientific will accelerate his company’s digital strategy to create a stronger platform for connected solutions in maintenance and safety. “We look forward to welcoming the Industrial Scientific employees to the Fortive team,” he said.
The acquisition was announced during Fortive’s second quarter earnings. Fortive, which is based in Everett and is the parent company of Fluke, had net earnings of $240.1 million for the quarter.
