MARYSVILLE – Water slides, miniature golf and kiddie rides could be coming soon to undeveloped land along I-5, according to preliminary plans filed by a Tukwila developer.
The amusement park is just one of several large projects proposed for the west side of the freeway at the northwestern tip of Marysville.
Scott Huish, whose family owns the 5-year-old Family Fun Center in Tukwila, said any development for the land along Twin Lakes Avenue is “early, early, early” in the planning process.
“We’re investigating the permit processes to see if this would be possible,” he said. “We’ve just got to figure out the highest and best use.”
The Huish family has owned the undeveloped 17 acres south of Gissberg Twin Lakes County Park since 2003, according to Snohomish County records.
An informal site plan submitted to the city of Marysville shows a water park with up to four water slides and a wave pool, as well as an arcade building and indoor miniature golf.
Other attractions would include batting cages, an outdoor minigolf course and a family go-kart track, bumper boats and other rides. Many of those same attractions are part of the Huishes’ Family Fun Center in Tukwila.
Under the preliminary application filed with the city, the arcade, minigolf and rides could be ready by summer 2006, but the water park and wave pool wouldn’t open until 2007 or 2008.
The Tulalip Tribes have mentioned in the past that a water park or amusement center could be part of Quil Ceda Village. John McCoy, Quil Ceda’s manager, said the Huishes talked to the tribes about building a family fun center on reservation land.
If the Huishes decide to build it on their own land, the tribes would look at other options, McCoy said.
“It would change our plans,” he said.
In addition to the potential fun center, two new residential subdivisions and a Costco-anchored retail center also are in the planning stages for the area of Marysville on the west side of I-5.
