EDMONDS – The new owner of a corner property on 220th Street SW containing Funtasia Fun Park says a mixed retail, office and residential development could rise on that site.
However, fans of Funtasia’s laser tag, indoor golf and other amusements don’t have to fret, as the business won’t be moving anytime soon.
“It will remain the same for the time being, because there are leases in place and we have good tenants,” said Dale Behar of the Behar Co. in Seattle. “So we’re not in any rush to redevelop.”
Even when new plans are formulated for the property, Funtasia may be allowed to remain as well, said Scott Mackie, who co-owns Funtasia with his wife, Jenny.
“It’s my understanding we’re part of his long-term plans. So we hope to be here for a long time,” Mackie said.
Behar’s firm bought the property, which covers about 6.5 acres at the corner of Highway 99 and 220th Street SW, for more than $6.2 million this fall from the Behla family of Woodway. There are several businesses on the property in addition to Funtasia, including a Schuck’s Auto Supply store.
Since buying it, Behar has talked with Edmonds officials who are discussing a new vision for the Highway 99 corridor.
“The Highway 99 Task Force envisions a densely developed commercial corridor there,” said Jennifer Gerend, Edmonds’ economic development director. “And we’re committed to working with property owners and developers to make that happen.”
Behar said only that he’s looking at a mixed-use project for the land.
“It’s a large piece of property, and it could accommodate retail, office and residential,” he said. “It’s a strategic location.”
