MILWAUKEE – Harley-Davidson has recalled 19,000 Dyna and Softail motorcycles for a brake issue that could increase the risk of a crash.
The recall, posted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, covers certain model-year 2012 bikes manufactured August 22, 2011 through February 24, 2012.
On those bikes, the threads for the banjo bolt in the front brake master cylinder may corrode. If that happens, a sudden loss of brake fluid could result, causing a loss of the front brakes and increasing the risk of a crash, according to the recall notice.
The recall is expected to begin Jan. 14. Harley said it will notify the bike owners, and dealerships will flush and inspect the front brake master cylinder and, if necessary, replace the master cylinder, free of charge.
