EVERETT — The former Holiday Inn near I-5 in south Everett officially switched names on Tuesday, the most visible step in a makeover for the 34-year-old hotel.
The Quality Inn &Conference Center is the new name for the larger half of the hotel property at 101 128th St. SE, while the rest is now known as Comfort Inn &Suites. Both brands reflect the hotel’s new affiliation with Choice Hotels International.
Earlier this year, the hotel ended its longtime affiliation with the Holiday Inn franchise. A factor in that decision was the impending construction of a new Holiday Inn Express just across I-5.
When partnering with Choice Hotels, the local owners of the former Holiday Inn decided to split it into two separate hotels
The Quality Inn &Conference Center has 164 rooms, including 55 larger suites, a restaurant, a heated indoor pool and hot tub, exercise and game rooms, and the 15,000-square-foot meeting space at the site.
Trina McLaughlin, business director of sales, said minor improvements have been made to the Quality Inn side, including the installation of new mattresses in most of the rooms.
The four-story, 84-room Comfort Inn and Suites building has undergone more extensive remodeling work. It has a new lobby and a meeting room, and workers are adding enclosed closets to the rooms. Other new fixtures are being installed on that side of the business as well.
Despite the changes, the hotels have the same owners, Trinaf Hotels USA of Everett, and the same management team as before, McLaughlin said.
Meanwhile, construction equipment has begun preparing the property on the west side of I-5 for the new Holiday Inn Express. Developer Dan Mitzel of Mount Vernon plans to open the three-story, 100-room motel next summer.
