After years of spectacular jet sales, Airbus and Boeing face a “challenging” economic climate for new aircraft sales in 2009.
Airbus’s sales guru John Leahy has predicted the European company could land as few as 300 new orders this year.
Boeing’s Scott Carson, president of commercial airplanes, was less specific about the company’s sales predictions, saying only that Boeing expects to see more deliveries than orders in 2009 … meaning less than 480.
And, last week, ILFC chief Steven Udvar-Hazy said it’s possible the two jet makers will see more cancellations than orders.
At the end of January, both Boeing and Airbus were in the negative.
How bad is it going to be this year?
