EVERETT — Everett-based Intermec will buy Vocollect Inc. for $190 million, company officials announced Tuesday.
Vocollect, owned by a Boston-based private equity firm, offers voice-technology software to manage supply warehouses and will help improve Intermec products used by mobile workers.
Intermec, a barcode pioneer, provides a variety of products that help companies track parts and products and ensure timely delivery in a global supply chain.
“The acquisition is a major step for Intermec in building a software-centric solutions business in the warehouse, the largest AIDC deployment environment,” said Patrick Byrne, Intermec president and chief executive.
AIDC stands for automatic identification and data collection.
Byrne said the companies have entered an agreement for an all-cash offer from Intermec. Vocollect has 1,500 customers and 300,000 users.
The deal should expand markets for the products developed by both companies, Intermec said in a news release.
Byrne said the use of Vocollect’s voice technology for warehouse work should “provide significant long-term growth opportunities for Intermec.”
“We are excited about the combination with Intermec,” Joe Pajer, Vocollect’s president and chief executive. “Working together, we believe we can accelerate the adoption of voice-centric solutions on a global basis and create new innovative warehouse solution capabilities for our customers and partners.”
When the deal is complete, Pajer will lead Intermec’s Voice Solutions business and report to Byrne.
Byrne said he expects the deal to deliver future revenue growth.
Vocollect had revenues of $120 million in 2010. The company said it expected the acquisition to add $10 million in “annual revenue synergies” and to add to earnings in 2011.
Goldman Sachs advised Intermec on the deal, the company said.
