Reference librarians at Sno-Isle Libraries started noticing a trend during the last year: Library visitors weren’t asking about Cliffs Notes and research papers.
They wanted to know how to use computers to find jobs.
That’s the reason behind a series of free classes starting next month at libraries around the Sno-Isle system. Geared to walk jobless workers through the hiring process, the classes have titles such as Facing the Healthcare Crisis and Employer Research for Jobseekers.
The class topics were inspired by library patrons’ questions. Where could they look for jobs online? How could they make a Microsoft Word resume into a PDF?
“We’re seeing a lot of people coming in who have never used computers to apply for jobs,” said Sno-Isle Libraries spokeswoman Mary Kelly.
Classes don’t require registration, but attendees are encouraged to call the library hosting the event to make sure there’s still space.
