Longview man organizing protest against PUD rates

LONGVIEW — A Longview man who had his power turned off for a week in March has organized a protest against a Cowlitz Public Utility District rate increase.

Rik Johnston is asking customers to turn off their power Thursday for 24 hours.

Johnston told The Daily News 640 people have signed up on Facebook for “Blackout Cowlitz PUD.”

The PUD raised rates 18 percent in November, blaming a dip in wind power sales to California.
