The symposium will be one of the first events at the newly opened Lynnwood Convention Center, running from 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. May 12 at the center, which is at 3711 196th St. SW.
The development council’s goal for the seminar is to “bring the focus of business excellence a little bit north,” said Linda Waring, director of business services for the organization.
Most high-profile business seminars are held in Seattle or Bellevue, not Snohomish County, she noted. But business excellence is “an area of emphasis that serves us all,” she said, and Peters is “the business excellence expert.”
Peters co-wrote the landmark 1982 book “In Search of Excellence,” and since then he’s been the author of a number of top-selling books on business management. His most recent book, “Re-imagine: Business Excellence in a Disruptive Age,” was published in 2003.
The list of other presenters includes Gregoire and a number of executives from industries that rely on innovation.
They include Dan Mooney, the Boeing Co.’s vice president for commercial airplane product development; Jack Faris, the president of the Washington Biotechnology Biomedical Association; Tom Miller, president of Intermec Technologies; and University of Washington President Mark Emmert.
Organizers are hoping to fill the 750-seat building for the event, Waring said. “We have a beautiful new Lynnwood Convention Center we want to show off.”
To encourage Snohomish County business people to attend, they’re discounting the $135 admission fee by $35 for members of any of the county’s chambers of commerce.
