The following recalls have been announced:
The South Bend Chocolate Co. of South Bend, Ind., is expanding its earlier recall of candy that contains peanut butter, because it could be contaminated with salmonella. This organism can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, especially in young children, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems. No illness has been reported. The recalled candy was all sold under the South Bend Chocolate Co. brand and was made on or after July 2008. It was sold in boxes and in bulk bins. Boxes or baskets with a round, gold sticker on the bottom are not included in the recall. Call 574-233-2577.
Jimmy’s Chocolate Chip Cookies Inc. of Fair Lawn, N.J., is recalling peanut butter chocolate chunk cookies and cookie dough sold under the Jimmy’s Cookies and One Smart Cookie brands, because they could be contaminated with salmonella. This organism can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, especially in young children, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems. No illness has been reported.
The recalled cookies come in four-ounce, 12.5-ounce and 18-ounce packs. The recalled dough comes in 15-pound, 20-pound and 25-pound foodservice packs with pack dates 12/4/08 through 1/14/09. They were available in eastern, southern and midwestern states at supermarket bakeries, convenience stores and lunch trucks. Call 800-937-5050.
Trader Joe’s of Monrovia, Calif., is recalling its branded seven-ounce containers of sliced green apples with all-natural peanut butter, because they could be contaminated with salmonella. This organism can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, especially in young children, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems. No illness has been reported. Brent and Sam’s of North Little Rock, Ark., is recalling two flavors of Archer Farms cookies and one flavor of Sam’s Choice cookies, because they could be contaminated with salmonella. This organism can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, especially in young children, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems. No illness has been reported.
The recall includes various date codes of Archer Farms brand Milk Chocolate Monster Chewy Soft Baked cookies and Double Peanut Butter Chewy Soft Baked cookies. They were sold at Target and Super Target stores around the country. It also includes two date codes of Sam’s Choice brand Milk Chocolate Peanut Butter cookies. Dough-to-Go of Santa Clara, Calif., is recalling a variety of cookie dough products that contain peanut butter, because they could be contaminated with salmonella. This organism can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, especially in young children, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems. No illness has been reported.
The recall includes dough sold under the Dough-to-Go brand in California; the Jane Dough brand in Washington, Nevada and Arizona; and the Auntie Ono brand in Hawaii. Call 800-220-2339.
Amway Global is recalling a variety of its Nutrilite energy bars because peanut paste it uses is from the Peanut Corporation of America, which is the focus of a recent salmonella outbreak. The energy bars are: Vanilla Pretzel Energy Bar, SKU/UPC 10-6529; lot numbers 8219A, 8242A, 8276A and 8304A; Peanut Butter Energy Bar, SKU/UPC 10-6530; lot numbers 8294A and 8340A; Chocolate Nut Roll Energy Bar, SKU/UPC 10-6528; lots numbers 8287A, 8357A and 8246A; Product Intro Kit, SKU/UPC E9745; lot numbers 8275BPS1, 8275BPS2, 8275BPS3, 8275MSN1, 8275MSN2 and 8275MSN3.

Stonewall Kitchen of York, Maine is voluntarily recalling seven dessert sauces because they have the potential to be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum, which can cause life-threatening illness or death. The recall affects all product codes and expiration dates for: Stonewall Kitchen Chocolate Hazelnut Sauce (SKU 161312), round glass jar, 12 oz.; Stonewall Kitchen Chocolate Peanut Butter (SKU 161211), round glass jar, 12 oz.; Stonewall Kitchen Coffee Caramel Sauce (SKU 161204), round glass jar, 13 oz.; Stonewall Kitchen Dulce Le Leche Sauce (SKU 161214), round glass jar, 12.5 oz.; Barefoot Contessa Espresso Dulce de Leche (SKU 542313), round glass jar, 10.5 oz. Those five products were distributed nationwide to consumers through the nine Stonewall Kitchen Company Stores, through catalog or Internet sales and through their wholesale division.
The following products were distributed through the A-Hold Corporation (Stop &Shop and Giant stores). The recall affects all product codes and expiration dates for: Simply Enjoy Coffee Caramel Sauce, square glass jar, 13 oz.; Simply Enjoy, Chocolate Peanut Butter Sauce, square glass jar, 12 oz.
