Brian Short has been promoted to manager. He joined Moss Adams in January 2008 and provides research tax credit studies for companies performing research and development.

Coastal Community Bank hires new rep
EVERETT — In response to increasing demand for business loans, Coastal Community Bank announced that Chris Schmidt has joined the bank as vice president and relationship manager in north Snohomish County.
Schmidt started his career working with Washington Mutual specializing in residential and consumer loans. Leaving Wamu to pursue a career in commercial lending, Schmidt joined First Heritage Bank as a commercial loan and business development officer originating all aspects of commercial loans, including SBA 7As and construction/development loans.
Schmidt has long been active in his neighborhood community, serving with several local chambers and as a volunteer firefighter-EMT for nine years. He will work at the Stanwood loan office and the bank’s office in Everett.
New staff join Kirtley-Cole Associates
EVERETT — Charlie Poggemann and Ryan Rantz have joined Kirtley-Cole Associates LLC.
Kirtley-Cole is a privately held construction company offering general contracting, preconstruction management and team-build services in the greater Puget Sound area for a variety of project types.
Poggemann joins the firm as a senior project manager. He has 20 years of construction industry experience and was previously with Bird Construction for 10 years, most recently as branch manager, and prior to that with SD Deacon. Poggemann holds a bachelor’s degree in construction management from California Polytechnic State University.
Rantz joins the firm as an estimator. He has eight years of construction industry experience and was previously with Corstone Contractors, Graham Contracting and Bird Construction. Rantz is a accredited with Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design and holds a bachelor’s degree in construction management from the University of Washington.
Esterline promotes McCoy to lead Korry subsidiary
EVERETT — Esterline Corp., a leading specialty manufacturer serving the aerospace and defense markets, announced that Mike McCoy was appointed president of its Korry Electronics subsidiary.
Located in Everett, the Korry products facility employs about 600 people and is the largest operating unit of the Esterline Control Systems business platform.
McCoy began his career with Esterline in 1998 as a cost estimator at the Korry facility. The strength of his work earned him a promotion to a senior staff position at another Esterline subsidiary in Kent, where he served as finance and IT director from 2003 to 2007. He returned to the Control Systems platform as vice president of finance. In addition to his finance duties, McCoy served as interim president for the Control Systems platform, managing four Esterline locations across the U.S., during the last six months.
Before joining Esterline, McCoy held various financial management roles with Winchell’s Donut Houses, which had roughly 900 operating units at the time. He assisted with the sale of the company to Pepsico.
HomeStreet Bank adds mortgage specialists
HomeStreet Bank has hired two mortgage specialists for Snohomish County customers.
Marisa Domar has joined HomeStreet Bank as a mortgage loan officer. She previously worked at Sterling Savings Bank as a personal banker and at US Bank, where she was a banker and assistant manager. She was born and raised in Portugal and moved to Seattle when she was 15. Domar recently bought a home in Lynnwood. She holds a communications degree from the University of Washington.
Dennis Luschen has joined HomeStreet Bank as a reverse mortgage specialist. He comes to HomeStreet from Stay In Home Mortgage, where he spent the past several years as the company’s national sales manager. Originally from Orange County, Calif., Luschen moved to Washington in 2006. He lives in Renton but will movie to Bothell next month. He has been inducted into Lynnwood Rotary and is starting to become active in Economic Alliance of Snohomish County. He works out of HomeStreet’s office at 22001 66th Ave. W., Mountlake Terrace.
Coast senior adviser reaches Partner’s Circle
EVERETT — Sperry Van Ness International, the national real estate firm affiliated with Coast|Sperry Van Ness of Everett, recently awarded senior adviser Josh Jansen the Partner’s Circle Award, the company’s highest sales award.

Coast’s new hire focuses on apartments
EVERETT — Coast|Sperry Van Ness of Everett has hired Tony Houts to the firm as a member of the Jansen Multifamily Team, whre he’ll focus on sales of 50-plus-unit apartments.
A recent graduate of the University of Washington and product of Archbishop Murphy High School, Houts is currently enrolled in a career advancement program to be designated as a certified commercial investment member, considered to be one of the highest academic designations in the real-estate industry.
Perteet Inc. expands expertise in utilities
EVERETT — Dan Mathias has joined Perteet Inc. as utility manager for their transportation design group and will work in Perteet’s Everett office.
Mathias most recently worked as a regional engineer at the state Department of Health after managing the City of Everett’s surface water management program. He brings to Perteet more than 30 years of experience in utility management including comprehensive planning for water, wastewater and storm-water facilities and development of a surface water monitor program design.
“Dan’s real-world experience from the City of Everett where he spent 25 years will be a huge asset to our clients,” said Crystal Donner, Perteet’s president and chief executive.
Washington Federal names branch manager
LYNNWOOD — Washington Federal has named Susan Henry branch manager at the Lynnwood office, said Roy Whitehead, Washington Federal’s president and chief executive officer.
Henry, a resident of Shoreline, has more than six years of banking experience. She is a Kiwanis of Edmonds board member and a volunteer for the Seattle Opera, Seattle Children’s Chorus and Pacific Northwest Ballet. In her free time, Henry also enjoys cheering on the Seattle Sounders, watching Formula One races and spending time with her family and friends.
Information services chief hired by Reardon
EVERETT — Snohomish County Executive Aaron Reardon has named Gage Andrews as the county’s new director of its Department of Information Services.
“Gage Andrews’ more than 20 years of experience in IT-related fields makes him a great fit for Snohomish County and the advancements we continue to make here,” Reardon said.
Gage, 59, has been the acting director of Tucson’s Information Technology Department since September and has been deputy director of the same department since 2006. He has been responsible for developing and implementing citywide IT projects.
Andrews also has experience in the private sector, working for Gordon Brothers Group and Ernst Home Centers.
Doug Nowak joins Everett Bone & Joint
EVERETT — Everett Bone & Joint has hired orthopedic surgeon Doug D. Nowak, MD. He joins a group of eight other surgeons who provide treatment in all areas of orthopedic care.
Nowak brings extensive experience in the treatment in sports-related injuries, having been involved in the treatment of more than 60 Olympic and professional athletes from the NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL. He will care for athletes of all ages and abilities in the general community, as well as the professional athletes already served by EBJ, including the Everett Silvertips, Washington Stealth and Seawolves. Nowak has completed 13 marathons including the Boston Marathon and four Ironman triathlons.
Nowak received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine and completed his residency at Columbia University Medical Center. He finished his training with a fellowship in orthopedic sports medicine at the Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colo.
Port contracts with Midwest representative
EVERETT — The Port of Everett contracted with Interocean Steamship Corp., represented by Jim Bavaro, to serve as the port’s Midwest agent to help facilitate and generate additional cargo opportunities.
Interocean Steamship Corp., based San Rafael, Calif., specializes in the movement of high and heavy cargo. Bavaro, based in Chicago, has more than 17 years in the shipping industry, and brings extensive knowledge of container, barge, Ro-Ro and lift-on/lift-off sales in the Australia, New Zealand, Far East and Puerto Rico trades.
“A large part of our cargo mix is heavy equipment exports that originate from the Midwest,” said Carl Wollebek, the port’s chief operating officer. “Having a presence in the Midwest will allow us to maximize our market exposure and better communicate the advantages of moving cargo through the Port of Everett.”
UW Bothell grad wins management award
BOTHELL — University of Washington Bothell alumnus Raul Biascoechea was named Manager of the Year by the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers. Biascoechea earned his MBA from UW Bothell in 2002.
As the chief customer engineer for 747, 767 and 777 airplane programs for Boeing, Biascoechea leads a team of approximately 80 engineers, engineering technicians and managers. Biascoechea said that “a lot of credit for this honor goes to the excellent education that I received in the UW Bothell MBA program.”
The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers announced the winners of its STAR Awards on Aug. 22 to recognize outstanding Hispanic professionals in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
EdCC names interim workforce training VP
LYNNWOOD — Susan Loreen has been appointed interim vice president of workforce development and training at Edmonds Community College.
Loreen has been in administration at the college since 1988. As the dean of the business division since 2000, she has managed workforce data including employment and emerging job development, managed grants and contracts, led instructional initiatives and managed a division of about 100 full- and part-time employees.
She led the division to start innovative degree programs in energy management and restoration horticulture to respond to demand for a trained workforce in green jobs. She expanded the college’s established programs into new areas for job growth and into initiatives in sustainable business practices.
Under Loreen’s leadership, the business division increased its online course offerings by 40 percent and developed new articulation agreements to give career-training students more options to complete bachelor’s degrees.
New VP of operations for Canyon Creek
MONROE — Canyon Creek Cabinet Co. recently promoted Bryan Jarvis to the position of vice president of operations.
Jarvis has been with the company since 2007, when he became the director of manufacturing. In 2009, he was promoted to director of operations, taking on additional responsibilities for the company’s shipping, maintenance and engineering departments.
“Bryan has contributed much to the success of Canyon Creek and in helping us navigate through tough times,” said Bill Weaver, president and chief executive. “He will play an important role in our senior management team.”
Washington Tourism Alliance hires director
SEATTLE — The Washington Tourism Alliance announced the appointment of Suzanne Fletcher as its first executive director.
Fletcher is 30-year travel and tourism industry veteran with a wide range of corporate and association leadership. Forbes magazine named Fletcher one of the 25 Most Influential Women in the travel industry for 2008. Business Travel News placed her among the Top-25 Most Influential Travel Executives of 2007. The National Business Travel Association awarded her Travel Manager of the Year in 2003.
Fletcher most recently served in two different marketing roles for Concur Technologies in Redmond from 2008 to 2011, where she contributed to the sales and marketing strategy for travel and expense solutions services.
Between 2005 and 2007, Fletcher served as president and chief executive of the National Business Travel Association and, during her tenure, served as global travel industry consultant to the Boeing Co.
