Price increases planned for K-C tissue products

Kimberly-Clark Corp. is raising prices for products including diapers and bathroom tissue as the maker of Huggies diapers and Cottonelle tissue tries to deal with increasing costs for raw materials. Other consumer product companies such as Colgate-Palmolive Co. and Procter & Gamble Co. have recently

indicated that they are also likely to boost prices. Kimberly-Clark said Thursday it will raise prices in North America for its baby, child care and consumer tissue businesses during the second and third quarters.

Nike profits miss analysts’ estimate

Athletic shoe and gear maker Nike Inc. said Thursday that its third-quarter net income rose 5 percent as its sales rose, but its profit and revenue missed analyst expectations, and its shares fell in after-hours trading. Nike said it earned $523 million, or $1.08 per share, for the quarter that ended Feb. 28. That’s up from $497 million, or $1.01 per share, in the same quarter last year. Shares of the company fell $5.35 — roughly 6 percent — to $80.61 in after-hours trading.

Fuel leak prompts recall for new Civics

Honda Motor Co. is recalling new models of the Honda Civic to prevent fuel from leaking from the car’s fuel tank. The recall covers about 18,000 Civics from the 2011 model year. Honda says a plastic case that covers a valve in the fuel pump module could break or crack. That, in turn, could lead to a fuel leak in a roll-over crash, and the leaking fuel could lead to a fire. Honda dealers will inspect the fuel pump module and replace it if necessary at no cost to the owner. The recall is expected to begin by April 11. For more information, owners can contact Honda at 800-999-1009.

Oil prices back above $100 a barrel

Oil prices climbed back above $100 per barrel Thursday after a crackdown on protesters in Bahrain increased concerns that unrest there threatens to spread to OPEC heavyweights Saudi Arabia and Iran. Prices are also rising slightly as Japan is expected to boost fuel imports as it recovers from its earthquake and tsunami disaster. And the world’s largest oil consumer, the United States, reported Thursday that unemployment claims dropped to the lowest level since July 2008, raising hopes that oil and gasoline demand will soon increase here.
