Hair straighteners, lip gloss and bottled mineral water are in. Hair dryers, lipstick and canned soda pop drinks are out.
This year’s update to the basket of goods and services called the Consumer Prices Index that are used to calculate British inflation provides a snapshot of the country’s changing tastes and new technology.
Other items that have dropped off the list released by the Office for National Statistics on Monday include allergy tablets, cereal bars, liquid soap and Blu-ray disc players.
Disposable cameras have been ditched thanks to the increasing popularity of digital compact cameras and mobile phones that can take photos, while pita bread has been replaced by garlic bread.
The statistics office collects around 180,000 prices every month for a basket of about 650 goods and services.
