Have small business owners lost their optimism?
American Express OPEN suggests that many have since the recession.
The company has offered a study of small business surveys over the past 10 years. You can check it out by Clicking here
The study says that small business owners were operating with optimism before the 2008 recession. But since then, most haven’t been. And that’s true despite gender, industry sector or size of business.
The recession may be technically over, but business owners won’t be optimistic until they start seeing some money come into the business, American Express says.
It said owners have a net optimism score of just +1, which isn’t very good.
According to American Express, small retailers are the bellwether industry group. When business optimism plummets, their pessimism leads the way.
Entrepreneurs in the South and West were consistently more optimistic prior to the recession.
Now owners in the northeast are the most positive about the economy.
