Face foreclosure? Here’s help

Homeowners fearing foreclosure can get some free advice, courtesy of a few government agencies and nonprofit groups.

Cascade High School in Everett is the site of a foreclosure prevention workshop Thursday, where homeowners can learn about refinancing and loan modifications that could help them hold on to their homes. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the school, 801 E. Casino Road.

“We’re looking for people who are at risk of not being able to continue their mortgage payments, who are already in default or who have issues where they might need more intervention or support,” said Jane Bloom, executive director of housing nonprofit Parkview Services.

Bloom said pockets of Snohomish County are at a high risk for foreclosures, including Marysville, Granite Falls and the region just north of Arlington.

Homeowners will have a chance to talk to housing counselors and lenders at the event, which is organized by Parkview Services, the Urban League of Seattle, the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco and other organizations.

Those attending should come prepared with their photo ID, Social Security number, closing documents and monthly mortgage statements, along with their last two yearly tax return forms, pay stubs and bank statements.

After Thursday, the workshop will migrate south. Cleveland High School in Seattle will host a second workshop on Friday, and a third will be at The Evergreen State College’s Tacoma campus on Saturday.
