Actually, this column from the L.A. Times mentions Viagra in the headline, but the point’s the same. Opinion columnist J.D. Smith talks about how environmentalists have failed over the years to convince poachers to stop killing rhinos and tigers in their quest to make sexual potency cures from these animals’ body parts.
His solution: “Let’s turn people on to drugs. How do you say ‘Viagra’ in Chinese? Would making Viagra, Levitra, Cialis or other pharmaceutical alternatives affordable around the world cause the demand for animal-based aphrodisiacs or sexual remedies to falter?”
He even suggests environmental groups could partner with pharmaceutical companies to give away ED drugs in order to save exotic wildlife. It may sound unlikely, but at least it’s pragmatic.
