EVERETT – Steve &Barry’s, one of the nation’s fastest- growing clothing retailers, hopes to open its new Everett Mall location by the end of June.
The 78,000-square-foot store takes up part of the space left by the wintertime closing of Mervyn’s. L.A. Fitness plans to occupy the adjoining space.
The chain, which already has stores in Auburn, Olympia and Spokane, is known for offering sports and casual wear at discount prices. Most items cost $20 or less.
Last year, Steve &Barry’s attracted attention for launching the Starbury collection of athletic shoes with NBA star Stephon Marbury. The collection includes the Starbury One, shoes that Marbury has worn while playing for the New York Knicks. A pair retails for less than $15.
This week, Steve &Barry’s launched actress Sarah Jessica Parker’s Bitten line of clothing, which also is exclusive to the chain. Actress Amanda Bynes will launch her clothing line with the chain later this summer.
“This is just a fabulous new store for us,” said Linda Johannes, general manager of the Everett Mall. “This is the hottest retailer in the country right now.”
For that reason, Johannes said she expects the store will attract some shoppers from outside Snohomish County.
The mall, which has been expanding and revamping its lineup of stores over the past two years, recently added Boss Wear Girl, and more stores plan openings in the next month. TJ Maxx and Hobbytown USA will open later in the year in the adjacent Everett Mall Village.
