Ahh … last week, while all the big players in aviation and aerospace were sweating it out in Farnborough, I was cheerfully splashing in the cool waters of Hood Canal with family and friends, and trying my best to ignore flying machines altogether (although I’ll admit to pondering the wing-ground effect while watching some great blue herons lumbering up off the beach).
But now I’m back for two weeks of work before I head off again for another adventure, this one in New York. I’ve received a fellowship to attend Columbia University, where I plan to pursue a master of science degree in journalism. http://www.jrn.columbia.edu/admissions/programs/knight-bagehot/fellows/ I’ll be gone for the whole school year.
Plan A and Plan B both have me returning to The Herald in early June 2007 — just in time to get reacquainted with the Boeing beat before the first flight of the 787 later in the summer. In the meantime, my bosses are looking for a full-time temporary replacement, and they’re hoping to find someone who can keep things going here in the blogosphere. So stay tuned.
In the meantime, I’ve got a whole lot of e-mail to read and phone calls to return, and then we’ll take a look at what happened last week at Farnborough.
