EVERETT — Union Bank, N.A., announced today that it will award $105,000 to nonprofit organizations in Snohomish County as part of its commitment to building healthy communities.
Donations will be given to United Way of Snohomish County ($55,000), Housing Hope ($25,000) and Sea Mar Community Health Centers ($25,000).
“The past year has been a period of marked expansion for us in Snohomish County and the Pacific Northwest,” said Ron Heller, Union Bank’s market president for Washington, noting Union Bank’s acquisition of Frontier Bank in May 2010.
Union Bank presently has 49 branches in Washington, 12 of which are in Snohomish County. The bank also has four branches in Oregon.
“We are delighted that this donation to three well-respected nonprofits enables us to further strengthen our relationships with the residents, businesses, and nonprofits of Snohomish County,” Heller said.
Union Bank’s long-standing tradition of supporting the Snohomish County community includes contributions to a variety of local organizations such as the Arts Council of Snohomish County, Campfire USA, Boys & Girls Club of Snohomish County, Snohomish Community Food Bank and the Everett Public Library.
“During a time when so many individuals and families are struggling to meet their basic needs and be self-sufficient, the support of Union Bank is an incredible gift to the community,” said Dennis Smith, interim president and CEO of United Way of Snohomish County. “United Way’s promise is that it will go to making the greatest impact possible for people here in Snohomish County, and we’re especially pleased that a portion of this gift will support youth and mobilizing volunteers.”
“Housing Hope has galvanized our community to action on the issue of affordable housing and family homelessness. We are delighted to have Union Bank as a significant partner in this important work,” said Ed Petersen, executive director of Housing Hope. “A safe, decent, affordable home is the essential building block for healthy families and a healthy community.”
The contribution came during a very busy week for the bank in Washington and Oregon. On Monday, the bank converted all of the customer accounts acquired last year from the former Frontier Bank to Union Bank’s operating platform, products, services and branding.
Through its foundation, Union Bank supports the communities it serves through charitable contributions. In 2010, the bank’s charitable investment in local communities totaled $10 million, which included grants, contributions and sponsorships to help finance the efforts of nonprofit organizations within the bank’s geography. The Union Bank Foundation focuses on four targeted areas to improve the quality of life for Pacific Northwest residents: affordable housing, community economic development, education and the environment.
