UNION GAP — A Washington water bottle manufacturer has been getting some unexpected national exposure for its products.
The Yakima Herald reported recycled aluminum water bottle made by Liberty Bottleworks of Union Gap was featured in a sketch on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” this past week.
The bottle was shown during a monologue about Republican candidate Marco Rubio’s campaign. The bottle with a map of the U.S. and the phrase “Water great nation” is one of several U.S. made products the Rubio campaign is selling online.
The executive creative director for Liberty Bottleworks says the national exposure is good. But Dustin Berg expressed concern about Colbert’s jest about the bottle being used in reference to the torture technique called waterboarding.
Berg says the company would prefer to be mentioned because they sell the only American-made water bottle. He notes they make promotion items for all kinds of organizations, across the political spectrum.
