EVERETT – Aerospace industry experts have grown to expect Boeing’s economic cycles, like watching a surfer ride a wave up and then down.
Even so, some of these experts see the current layoffs sparked by the explosive blow to the airline industry after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks as atypical – the layoffs happened quicker than normal, were deeper than expected and the unemployed will probably be out of work much longer.
But what might make this round of layoffs historically different from past Boeing layoffs isn’t based solely on economics.
