Everett Community College is showing 14 short films from the 2009 Atlanta Philosophy Film Festival.
The films are a variety of genres from around the world, all meant to spark philosophical discussions, said EvCC philosophy instructor Mike VanQuickenborne, who brought the film festival to EvCC.
The films include the animated “In The Fall Of Gravity,” in which the consciousness and the workings of the universe are explored between a wizard and his traveling companion; “The Gynecologist,” in which the doctor is working in her office at the hospital when her next patient is a boy; the experimental “Milk Run” where a man goes out for a pint of milk and his wife has way too much to think about; “Small Talk” where philosophers Nietzsche and Sartre are among us in the present sweeping streets and parks and “The Secret Lives Of Robots,” in which Rose and Michael meet for a blind date and while they don’t hit it off, their robots make a connection that could have disastrous consequences for all of humanity.
The free festival runs from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at EvCC’s Baker Hall, Room 120, 2000 Tower St., Everett. For more information on the films, which are open to all ages, go to the Atlanta Philosophy Film Festival Web site at http://tinyurl.com/ATLphilosophyfilms.
