Luxury SUV’s just got cooler with the introduction of the 2022 Genesis GV70.

The GV70 represents the fifth Genesis model in America and the South Korean manufacturer’s second SUV.

The GV70 makes a statement, simply parked in your driveway. My tester, the Sport Prestige trim, came with a “Barossa Burgundy” matte finish coat of enamel that reminded me of my favorite Syrah.

Inspired by the design philosophy of “athletic elegance” GV70’s side profile is enhanced by a dynamic contrast of its rear fender with the arching parabolic line that beings at the top of the guad lamps and runs across the entire body. The design creates the illusion of movement, even when parked.

“Genesis has been striving to build a strong product lineup focused on design, product development, service, all centered on our customers’ lifestyles,” said Jay Chang, Global Head of the Genesis brand. “With the debut of GV70, Genesis will continue to provide models aimed at connoisseurs around the globe, delivering a tailored mobility experience based on our customer-centric philosophy.”

Powered by a 3.5-liter V6 T-GDI engine that manufactures 375 horsepower and 301 lb-ft of torque, the GV70 accommodates up to five adults and delivers 25 miles per gallon fuel economy down the highway.

The Sport Prestige option ($4,900), adds 21-inch alloy wheels, electronic limited slip differential, Nappa leather seating surfaces with suede inserts, carbon fiber trim, three-zone climate control with second row heated seats, and a 3D digital cluster with heads up display.

My tester also included a Sport Advanced option ($5,000), which adds a heated steering wheel, digital key, surround view monitor, remote smart parking assistant, parking distance warning and collision avoidance, and a Lexicon premium audio system with 16 speakers.

GV70 offers an optimal fun-to-drive experience with its powerful performance fit for a rear-wheel drive-based SUV. Four drive modes are available including eco, comfort, sport, and custom modes for dynamic driving in various road conditions. The Sport Package is also equipped with an additional Sport Plus mode.

GV70’s fun-to-drive nature is enabled by an enhanced body frame structure accomplished by increasing the ultra-high tensile steel plates and expanding hot stamping steel plates. GV70’s performance is enhanced by reducing weight with lightweight technologies such as application of aluminum materials to the hood and tailgate.

Comfort and convenience features include heated and ventilated front seats, premium navigation with a massive 14.5-inch screen, ambient lighting, dual front and dual rear USB ports, wireless phone charger, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 12V power outlet, second row 110-V power outlet, rearview camera, fingerprint recognition, and aluminum trim with haptic carbon pattern.

Advanced safety features are befitting of the brand. Smart cruise control, forward collision avoidance assist with pedestrian and cyclist warning, driver attention warning, blind spot collision avoidance assist, rear cross-traffic collision avoidance assist, safe exit assist, intelligent speed limit assist, and parking distance warning are all standard.

And, even though it was beneath its dignity, the GV70 proved capable of a dump run. Folding the rear seats flat provided enough room for a garage spring cleaning with room to spare.
