Better than brown bags: BYObag insulated neoprene bottle totes by Built NY offer stylish clink-proof transportation for wine. Available at Arista in trendy colors, including blue and orange (as shown), cranberry red and leaf green, the bags are made with wet-suit grade neoprene and nylon to keep white wines chilled and red wines at their proper temperature. The bags store flat and are available in one- and two-bottle styles; $14.99, $17.99.

Coaster to coaster: Layered glass coasters by Frame Traditions, available at Arista, offer a new way to display photos of family and friends. The 2-by-2-inch space could also be used for place cards on the dinner table; $19.99 set of 4.

Pick and toss: Disposable party picks from Arista are paired with a glass bowl available at C’est la Vie. The set of 30 party picks by Talisman Designs provides an instant display for hors d’oeuvres, dips or cocktails; $9.99. Hand-poured, recycled glass tableware by Fire &Light Originals comes in eight colors, including celery (as shown), lavender and copper. Fire &Light offers an entire line of richly textured dinner and giftware; $14 salad bowl.

Light show: Photo vellum lamps by AE Jennings Designs, available at C’est la Vie, have original photographs on each panel printed on photo vellum with a process that prevents fading by sunshine or the light from the bulb. Adrienne Jennings, the lamps’ designer, has traveled the world to capture the photographs of pastoral scenes and urban landscapes. The line has been discontinued but more than five table and floor lamps are still available at C’est la Vie; $240 dunes lamp.

Light stories: These tribal-inspired candles in vivid colors and designs are hand-painted in South Africa, the “Rainbow Nation.” Each candle tells a story and represents the variety of landscapes and diversity of cultures. $13 per pair for 10-inch tapers, $18 cube.

Curly Tops Cypress (Chamaecyparis pisfiera), a modern version of the old Boulevard Cypress, is one I chose years ago and still enjoy. Great blue color and interesting twisted needles add texture to boot. This is a smaller grower, maturing to perhaps 10-feet tall and 8-feet wide, but it will take some shearing if needed.
