Whidbey artist Jeff Day presents “Mysterious China,” a collection of paintings and bronzes at Greenbank on Friday.
Day took an extended stay in Nanjing, an ancient city in the southwestern part of China, to explore the culture and ancient art work there.
Day’s study of the Chinese figure and form, along with his interest in the pictographs that the Chinese use to write their language have inspired his line drawings on old paper, according to press material about the show.
The show begins with a reception at 5 this afternoon at The Rob Schouten Gallery at Greenbank Farm, 765 Wonn Road. Refreshments will be served and Quinn Fitzpatrick will provide music.
Also on Whidbey Island is the group show “Bells, Books and Candlesticks” at Brackenwood Gallery.
The artists, who work in a variety of media, each explored this theme through their work, which resulted in handmade books, elegant bronze bookends and candlesticks, wooden candlesticks, bookcases, bells and paintings that ring in the changing season, according to a press release about the show.
An artists’ reception for “Bells, Books and Candlesticks” will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday Brackenwood Gallery, 302 First St., Langley.
