The band most closely associated with sun, sand and surfboards delivers its classic California rock hits Thursday at the Tulalip Amphitheatre.
The Beach Boys rode their harmonies to more than 65 million records on the strength of hits such as “Surfin’ U.S.A.” (using Chuck Berry’s music for “Sweet Little Sixteen”), “Surfin’ Safari,” “Surfer Girl,” “Little Deuce Coupe,” “Fun, Fun, Fun” and “Help Me, Rhonda.”
In 1966, led by Brian Wilson, the Beach Boys experimented in the “Pet Sounds” album, which started a trend of studio experimentation and inspired the Beatles’ “Sgt. Pepper.” Wilson no longer performs on tour with the band.
The Beach Boys eventually turned into a successful nostalgic act but also had a third chart-topper, “Kokomo” in 1988, the year they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Petula Clark: Queen Elizabeth II presented Clark the Commander of the Order of the British Empire for “bringing so much joy over the years.” Over there, she was also known as the Juke Box Queen and the First Lady of Pop. During World War II, Clark was billed as the British Shirley Temple, later recording her first song in 1949.
In this country, the Grammy-winning singer is best known for her 1960s songs “Downtown,” “My Love,” “I Couldn’t Live Without Your Love,” “I Know a Place” and “This is My Song,” although she’s written songs covered by The Vogues and Harry Belafonte, and starred in Hollywood musicals.

He brings his straight-ahead jazz trio for a four-might stand with music from recently released “Spirit of the Moment.” Last year he released “Rhapsody in Blue,” paying homage to George Gershwin with the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra.
Justin Timberlake: The four-time Grammy-winning pop-R&B singer-songwriter (ex-frontman for boy band ‘N Sync), who may have a performance with Madonna in his future, has been focusing on his music career rather than his acting career. Frontman Chris Daughtry’s nailed hit singles with “It’s Not Over” and “Home.” The latter becoming the contestant elimination theme on this year’s “American Idol.”
