It’s almost June so here’s the new list of reading suggestions for the Year of the Book program. Sno-Isle Regional Library System and the Everett Public Library in partnership with The Herald invites readers of all ages to take part in online book discussions and other reading throughout the year. The Classics: “Animal Farm” by George Orwell, “Dune” by Frank Herbert, “Stranger in a Strange Land” by Robert Heinlein and “The Time Machine” by H.G. Wells.
Adults: “Time and Again” by Jack Finney, “Daughter of the Forest” by Juliet Marillier, “Enchantment” by Orson Scott Card and “The Sterkarm Handshake” by Susan Price.
All ages: “A Wrinkle in Time” by Madeleine L’Engle, “The Secret of Platform 13” by Eva Ibbotson and “The Giver” by Lois Lowry.
The libraries are also having some special programs this month:
* Open Mike, Open Easel Poetry &Art, 6 to 8 p.m. June 30, Marysville Library, 6120 Grove St.; 360-658-5000.
* A Fantasy Writing Workshop presented by author Dia Calhoun at 2 p.m. June 12 at the Lynnwood Library, 19200 44th Ave. W. For ages 10-15.
* Explore Learning Adventures With Elderhostel at 7 p.m. June 9 at the Mill Creek Library, 15249 Bothell-Everett Highway.
* Creatures and Characters at 6:30 p.m. June 9 at the Sultan Library, 319 Main St., Suite 100. A hands-on lesson in comic book art and for teens.
* Flower Fairies and Tales at 1 p.m. June 26 at the Stanwood Library, 9701 271st St. Fairy tales and crafts. Ages 7 and up are invited to wear their most magical dresses. Preregistration required.
