50 YEARS AGO (1959)
Eugene Everson, 6310 Fleming Road, sat at the wheel of the sleek Chris Craft model speedboat he built in his back yard during a four-year do-it-yourself project. A Boeing research engineer, he built the boat from plans he scaled up from a small model. The 18-foot boat was powered by a 135 hp Gray Marine engine.
Scheduled to finish four weeks of individual combat training later this month at the Marine Corps Base, Camp Pendleton, Calif., was Marine Pfc. Roger A. Castle of 3418 Kromer Ave.
25 YEARS AGO (1984)
A walk to help stop hunger was beginning at the First Methodist Church at 36th Street and Colby Avenue in Everett. Sponsored by the North Snohomish County Association of Churches, the program would benefit programs to feed the hungry.
Advent Lutheran Church was ready to break ground on its new $380,000 facility on a 4.2-acre site near Murphy’s Corner at 132nd Street and 21st Drive SE. The Rev. Norris C. Swenson was pastor, and Martin Parker was chairman of the building committee.
